With the economy being bad, we all have to cut back on our spending. But we still have to eat. If you are looking for a place with great food and at an affordable price, Paul Rufe invites you to stop over at the Light House Caf?t 3 Margaret Ave. in Essex. The restaurant tries to offer a new meal everyday for under $5. We know that times are hard. Customers are having tough times. We are all having tough times. It makes it easier if we can provide a meal everyday for under $5, Rufe said. Light House also offers free business delivery, a 16 cheese pizza for only $6.99 and Tuesday is Pasta Day. That means a customer can buy a pasta meal and receive another pasta meal free. Light House Caf?s owned and operated by Paul Rufe. He is no stranger to the sub and pizza business. He started off as a driver and became an owner of one of three Super Subs locations in Chase. He decided to move his store up to downtown Essex and rename the business Light House Caf?ecause of his love of lighthouses. I have always like lighthouses, Rufe said. It signifies many things. A lighthouse represents peace and safety. It is also an welcoming sign. Rufe has also done a good job trying to create a welcoming atmosphere for his customers. Light House used to be located on Eastern Boulevard, but moved over 3 Margaret Ave. on Dec. 29, 2007. Rufe felt the old building made Light House more of a carryout because customer seating was located in the rear of the business. The Margaret Avenue building has seating inside of the store and has picnic tables outside for warm weather. The restaurant has a painting of a lighthouse and has miniature lighthouses around the store that were donated by some customers. It shows how our customers feel about eating here, Rufe said about the donations of the lighthouses. You can come in here and relax. We have gained more of a walk-in crowd (since moving from Eastern Boulevard). The atmosphere is cozy. Rufe believes some of the most popular items on the menu are the cheeseburger sub, the chicken salad and fresh shrimp salad. The coleslaw is also popular because its homemade. If you forget to eat breakfast, you can stop in to Light House for one of their breakfast meals. And if you have a sweet tooth, Light House serves homemade desserts. Rufe and his staff have cheesecakes, brownies, cookies and much more. The restaurant is open Sundays from 10 a.m. - 11 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays from 7 a.m. - 11 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. - midnight.

For more information or to place an order, call 410-574-SUBS (7827). Stop over to the Light House Caf?or a good meal and a good time. We try to make it fun. If you can't enjoy yourself and what do you do, you need to do something else, Rufe added.
