Mount Carmel Announces New Coach

Rob Long
There is an old saying that states, when one door closes, another one opens. Such is the case for Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School, and basketball coach Rob Long who announced his hiring for the 2010-11 season.  This winter with the school beginning an indoor soccer team, many of the outdoor soccer players chose to stay with soccer instead of basketball, causing the team to fold. Coach Long was anticipating entering his fourth season as the head coach at the College of Notre Dame. As the fall seasons ended, and practice began, the combination of athletes injured in the fall, and those injured at practice reduced the roster to a point that it became dangerous to continue.
For Coach Long, coming to Our Lady of Mount Carmel seemed like a perfect fit for him to achieve the goals he has for his personal and professional life.  Known as the host of the Rob Long show on Fox 1370AM, Long feels that the life of a high school coach better suits the demands of his professional life.  Long, a resident of Middle River, who is known for building programs, hopes to build a program that will afford him the opportunity to one day coach his daughter Stephanie.
The relationship between Long and Mount Carmel is a natural fit. The two developed a relationship during Long’s tenure at the College of Notre Dame as Long recruited three of the Cougar players, and three others attended his summer camp.  Long successfully recruited the school’s all time leading scorer Briana Grap to CND in 2007. In addition, 2009 graduate Allyson White was a member of the Gators roster this winter.  Throughout the years Long has involved himself in other aspects of the Mount Carmel community, speaking at the school’s leadership retreat for SGA/NHS and giving the men’s basketball team a class on dealing with the media.
Long comes to Mount Carmel after coaching at the College of Notre Dame for three seasons. The 2006-07 Gators won the AWCC championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history.
Joining Long at Mount Carmel are two of his former players Nichelle Dixon and Gloria Broady.
