Tech's Lauren Scrivener had five
strikeouts on the day.

After watching their
baseball and girls
lacrosse team seasons ended by Loch Raven High School, Eastern Tech
finally got revenge by beating Loch Raven in softball 5-3 to capture
the 2A North Regional Title. Although Tech was the favorite to win the
region, Coach Dave Scrivener and his players remember last season when
the Mavericks were upset in the regional semifinals to Hereford.
“Last year was tough for us to shallow,” Coach Scriber said. “We didn't
play well in that game. I thought today we played spectacular.”
Tech jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. Desiree Cornelison had three hits
on the day and scored a run in the first inning after a Lauren Edgerton
double. The Mavericks came right back in the second and loaded the
bases after Carly Ordak and Alicia Mattheu were hit-by-a-pitch and
Amanda Walters was walked. Ordak scored after pitcher and coach
Scriber's daughter Lauren Scrivener's base hit and Mattheu and
Scrivener scored on a Cornelison double to go up 4-0.
The Mavericks added one more run in the fifth and that appeared to be
enough for Scrivener, as she struck out five batters and retired 12
Loch Raven players in a row. Coach Scrivener never saw his daughter so
nervous before a game as he said she had trouble sleeping the past few
days. The Maverick pitcher also got help from her defense. Ordak and
Thirdman Megan Smith both made a diving catch and second baseman
Walters snagged multiple line drives.
“I had a lot of balls hit to me today. I was able to focus and I knew I
had to make those catches,” Walters said.
Tech had a 5-0 lead in the last inning, but Loch Raven made things
interesting. The first three Loch Raven batters got hits and all scored
runs. It appeared that Coach Scrivener was going to take his daughter
out of the game, but Tech's star pitcher stayed in the game to record
the final three outs for the 5-3 win.
“We had our closer ready to go. I was ready to make a change, but
(Lauren) signaled me one more,” Coach Scrivener said.
Other Softball Scores
Western
Tech 2 Sparrows Point 0
After finishing with an 8-6 record, it was hard to believe that Western
Tech could go into Sparrows Point and beat the top-ranked team in the
1A North Region, but the Pointers couldn't score any runs in the 2-0
loss.
CM
Wright 5 Perry Hall 2
The Gators were seeded second in the 4A North Region and were on a
collision course with top ranked Linganore. The only problem was 11th
seeded CM Wright came to Perry Hall and shocked the Gators 5-2.
Franklin
20 Patapsco 0
The Patriots really don't have to be embarrassed. Franklin is probably
the best team in the state with an undefeated record and even Eastern
Tech, Sparrows Point and Perry Hall lost to this Franklin team.
